Early Pregnancy
Symptoms
Knowing how to recognize the early pregnancy symptoms helps
you better cope with pregnancy. Obviously, the only way to be
sure you are pregnant is through the test, but you can come to
a good conclusion whether or not there is a probability you are
pregnant before the test, and also you can ascertain whether
some of the symptoms you are suffering from are a product of
pregnancy or another cause.
Signs and symptoms of pregnancy differ from woman to woman
and from pregnancy to pregnancy, but usually show up one week
after conception. Not all women will suffer from pregnancy
symptoms. Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Implantation Bleeding:
Implantation bleeding is often one of the earliest signs of
pregnancy. About one week after conception the embryo will
implant itself in the uterine wall. This leads to spotty
bleeding in some woman, and the blood is usually lighter than
that of a normal period. It can also cause cramping in some
woman.
Delay/Difference in Menstruation:
A delayed or missed period is the most commonly recognized
pregnancy sign which leads many woman to test for pregnancy.
After conception, the next period should be missed. Some woman
bleed while they are pregnant but it is usually of a shorter
duration and much lighter than a normal period.
Tender and Swollen Breasts:
Swollen and tender breasts are a common symptom of pregnancy
caused by the rapid fluctuation in hormones. Many woman may
notice their breasts feel fuller and heavier and are tender or
sensitive to the touch.
Fatigue and Tiredness:
Feeling fatigued or more tired than usual is a common pregnancy
symptom which can start as early as the first week after
pregnancy. Many woman may feel lethargic, or exhausted and more
stressed than usual.
Backaches:
Backaches affecting primarily the lower back may be an early
sign of pregnancy, but it is common to experience a dull
backache throughout the duration of an entire pregnancy.
Initial backache may be a symptom of new blood flow being
redirected to the rapidly growing uterus, while the later
backache can be caused by the physical weight of the fetus.
Headaches:
The sharp spike in hormones released within the body during
early pregnancy can cause headaches in many woman.
Frequent Urination:
After the first month or so of pregnancy, you may find you have
the urge to urinate more often. This is caused by increased
pressure on the urinary bladder caused by the growing uterus.
Many woman may fear leaking, so it is a good idea to wear a
pantyliner for convenience.
Darkening of the Areolas:
The areolas are the skin around the nipples, and along with
fuller breasts, the areolas commonly become darker during
pregnancy.
Food Cravings:
Many woman feel cravings for certain foods while pregnant.
Cravings are a common symptom of pregnancy that lasts the
entire duration of the pregnancy.
Nausea:
Nausea and morning sickness are a common symptom of pregnancy
that can happen as early as two weeks after conception. These
are usually a side effect of rising estrogen levels associated
with pregnancy, which cause the stomach to empty slower than
usual. Pregnant women also typically have a heightened sense of
smell which makes them more sensitive to strong odors like
cigarette smoke, food cooking, or perfume.
If you are displaying any of the signs and symptoms listed
above, it is important that you take a pregnancy test as soon
as possible to rule out other possible disorders. Pregnancy is
a time of heightened emotion and neediness for woman, so it is
important that you talk to your partner about your needs and
voice your concerns. Pregnancy should be a collective effort,
and with proper support from your spouse and loved ones you can
get through it smoothly and as comfortably as possible.
